There's something wonderfully romantic about an opera coat. Even the name conjures up an evening out, a beautiful entrance and a delicious anticipation of dressing up.
Although opera coats existed before the 1920s, it's the glamour of that era that captures my imagination. Think shimmering fabrics, lavish trims and a coat that deserves just as much attention as a dress beneath it. Why should the good bit only begin when you take your coat off?
With opera coats making a return to the catwalks, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit their glamour.
An Entrance of Your Own
Our Delphia coats are our reinvention of that spirit: a little theatrical, gloriously glamorous and made for creating an entrance of your own.
A Nod to the 70s
There's another influence in the mix too, and this one comes from my own wardrobe history: the Afghan coats I wore in the late 70s. These days you'll hear that look called a Penny Lane coat, but to me they'll always be Afghans.
I remember that bohemian appeal and, rather less fondly, their unmistakable smell! Delphia gives a nod to those coats, with rather less of the aroma and rather more glamour.

For me, these two influences belong beautifully together. The romance of an evening at the opera and the freedom of 70s dressing. A touch of grandeur, with a relaxed attitude.
That's how I think of Delphia. Wear it over something fabulous for an evening out, or let it bring a little extra extravagance to an otherwise ordinary day. There's no need to wait for an invitation grand enough to justify a coat you love.
Opera tickets entirely optional.
