What Makes a Great Trouser?

The three trouser shapes we're wearing on repeat right now: the Tilde straight leg, the Tyler pleat front wide leg, and the Sutton barrel. Plus the small details that make all the difference.

The best trousers do more than fit well. They're the ones you wear on repeat, the ones that quietly become the easiest thing in your wardrobe.

At JOY we spend a lot of time perfecting the fit of our trousers. Before committing to production, we try them on multiple sizes and body shapes until they're right. Fabrics are considered for durability and seasonality. We know from experience that when you find the perfect trouser, you want it in several colours and fabrications.

So, with that in mind, let us take you through the three shapes we're wearing on repeat right now.

The Straight Leg

The Tilde is a best seller for a reason. A shape that works with everything. Easy, flattering, the kind of trouser you keep coming back to.

This summer it's cut in a cool, fluid linen-viscose mix, and because of demand now lives in seven colours.

The Pleat Front Wide Leg

Meet Tyler. Softly tailored, a little more drama, still incredibly easy to wear.

The Barrel

Directional, but surprisingly wearable. The Sutton is a relaxed-fit trouser that's all about ease and a little bit of fashion. Different, in a very good way.

A few hidden details

Small things you might not have noticed.

  • Really deep pockets, on every shape.
  • Men's tailoring front waistbands, for a clean finish.
  • Back-elastic waistbands, for comfort and to stop the dreaded back gap when you sit down.

We could talk about our trousers all day. But honestly, we'll leave the rest to you.
