1. Oscars 2016: the Dresses, the Winners and Our Favourite Moments

The Oscars took place just a few hours ago and they're what everybody's talking about (ourselves included)! In case you missed it, we've put together everything you need to know: the dresses, the winners and of course, the moment when our beloved Leo finally got his long-deserved golden statue.

    The gowns
Blue seemed to be having a big moment, will several actresses sporting the colour, from royal blue to purple-tinted hues and lighter, almost silver-like shades. Green was also a favourite, as well as the classic black and white. And extra points to Charlize Theron, Alicia Vikander and Margot Robbie for choosing something different - Charlize was stunning in her floor-sweeping red dress, Alicia looked flawless in her yellow gown and Margot gave us a super dose of glam that felt effortlessly elegant. But that's just us... Check out the photos below and tell us who were your favourites.

Above: Reese Witherspoon, Daisy Ridley, Brie Larson, Naomi Watts, Sophie Turner and Sofia Vergara.

Above: Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan and Rachel McAdams.

Above: Olivia Wilde, kerry Washington, Lady Gaga, Julianne Moore, Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Garner.

    The moment to remember:
The most adorable moment of the evening was when Kate and Leo left their dates to greet each other on the red carpet. TOO CUTE. Not only that, but when the night's most awaited moment finally came - the Oscar for Best Actor - Kate even shed a tear as Leo was announced winner. (And so did we, but hey, don't tell anyone!)

  2. Brit Awards: the Best and Worst Dressed

In case you missed the Brit Awards (how could anyone, really), here's our own take on the best and worst dressed of the evening.

    The best dressed
Rihanna matched her eyeshadow to her dress and Kylie Minogue's twirly number was just too cute, while singer Tallia Storm looked lovely in her embellished dress.
    Untitled design (8)

Alexa Chung, Fleur East and Lily Donaldson showed different versions of glam.
    Untitled design (7)

Maybe not the most flattering choices, but we have to praise Adele for choosing something other than her customary black dresses.
    Untitled design (9)

The Little Mix girls brought their mums along. Just for that, they should get an award. #toocute

Ant and Dec went out with a bang and so did Ant's purple gown.
    Untitled design (6)

    The worst dressed
We're still not quite sure about Jess Glynne's hair and Lana Del Rey's floral gown was a little too casual for the event. Keith Lemon was just,... well, Keith Lemon.
    Untitled design (4)

Annie Mac's rainbow dress just wasn't flattering, while Cheryl Cole's dress seems to evoke her girl-band days. And Sinitta? She knows how to make an entrance (sort of)...
    Untitled design (3)

What can we say? Pam Hogg's and her scantily-clad friend, model Sadie Pinn, have certainly won our award for worst dressed of the event.
    Untitled design (5)

What about you? Who do you think were the best and worst dressed of the night?

  3. Mum's the Word

    Mum's (1)

We all know that mums always, but ALWAYS know what’s best for us, even if we sometimes fail to see it. And because Mother’s Day is right around the corner, we’ve put together a list of mum-isms that never get old.

    Here’s our list:
    1. Did you brush your teeth?
    2. Don't go out with a wet head, you'll catch cold.
    3. Don't sit too close to the television; it'll ruin your eyes.
    4. Do you think this is a hotel? You can't just come here only to sleep.
    5. Because I SAID SO.
    6. Just wait until we get home.
    7. It's no use crying over spilt milk.
    8. Don’t make me come in there!
    9. Eat your carrots, or you won’t be able to see in the dark.
    10. Turn off that light. Do you think we own the electric company?
    11. I said CLOSE the door, not SLAM it.
    12. I'm going to give you until the count of three...
    13. What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it, too?
    14. I’m not going to say ‘I told you so’!
    15. I don’t care what all the other kids get to do.
    16. Now, say you’re sorry…and MEAN it!
    17. When you have your own house you can make the rules.
    18. Just you wait until you have kids of your own - then you'll understand
    19. It doesn't matter what you accomplish, I'll always be proud of you.
    20. You will ALWAYS be my baby.

Do you think we managed to cover them all? What about your mum’s?

P.S.: don’t forget to get her something really special. Have a look at our unique selection of gifts.

  4. We've Got Your Valentine's Day Breakfast Sorted

Not sure what to do this Valentine’s Day to surprise your other half? Breakfast in bed is always a winning option and Fern Green’s Bacon & Egg Toast Muffins, featured in her book Breakfast: Morning, Noon & Night (you can get it here), a great way to someone's heart.

Not only is bacon and eggs such a classic combo, but also easy to pull together – yep, even you can do it! For this recipe, you can also use puff pastry or corn tortillas, in case you’re wheat intolerant. Plus, you can replace the bacon with prosciutto and add sun-dried tomatoes and slices of mozzarella. A standard muffin tin works well, but you can also use ramekins or dariole moulds.

    Bacon and Egg Toast Muffins_sq

    For 6 muffins
    3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
6 medium slices white or brown bread
6 rashers (slices) smoked streaky bacon
4 spring onions (scallions), thinly sliced
    6 eggs
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 Portobello mushrooms, grilled, to serve
    Vine tomatoes, roasted, to serve

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F/Gas 5) and grease a muffin tin with the melted butter. Flatten the slices of bread by rolling over each one a few times with a rolling pin. Use a 10 cm (4¼ in) round biscuit cutter to cut a circle out of each slice of bread. If you don’t have one of these, you can use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut out the circle instead. Cut one of the circles in half and push one half down into a mould in the muffin tin, with the curved edge at the top, so the edges of the bread stick up out of the mould. Then push the other half in the mould so that the two halves overlap slightly and completely line the mould. If you find you have some gaps, just use some of the bread you cut off to fill them in. Brush the bread with the remaining melted butter.
In a heavy-based frying pan, fry the bacon on one side over a medium heat for 4 minutes without flipping it over.
Lay a piece of bacon, cooked side down, into each muffin cup. Sprinkle some spring onion evenly over the bacon and then crack an egg into each muffin cup. Season and bake for 20 minutes in the oven.
Run a small knife around the bread, which will now be toasted, and pop out each muffin from the tin. Serve immediately with a large grilled mushroom and some roasted vine tomatoes to make a complete dish. Otherwise these are great on their own for elevenses.
