1. Style Icon: James Dean

“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.”

    – James Dean

Here at JOY HQ, we’re celebrating the upcoming release of Anton Corbijn’s highly-anticipated film, LIFE by not only teaming up with lovely folks at Entertainment One UK to bring you some seriously cool prizes - tickets to the Gala screening anyone? But to also take this moment to look back at some of Mr James Dean’s finest style moments.

Stills from LIFE, in cinemas September 25.

The film’s trailer - which outlines the plot of LIFE magazine photographer, Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) capturing what were to become some of the rising star’s (Dane Dehaan) last and most intimate moments - immediately prompts us to recall the actor’s iconic sense of style. An outsider sense of style that remains just as relevant today, think the white T-shirt, the Breton stripes, the beaten biker and the lived-in denim. Of course, we all already know the poster boy image of him brooding in a bomber and *my personal favourite* snap of a spectacle-wearing, poetry-scoping Dean that would be so worthy of the #HotMenReading Instagram tag today.

Whatever image you look at, James Dean just had it. The it we all strive for. That undeniable air of nonchalant-cool that even dripped from the rebellious way a cigarette hung from his lips. The good news is, you can get it too with a little help from these new season buys.

  3. #SayNoToSoggyBottoms

It’s official: this week we’re boycotting hump day celebrations as tomorrow brings the end of The Great British Bake Off for another year – sob! To ease the doom ‘n’ gloom a smidge, we’re calling on all you budding bakers to show us what you’re made of and give Queen Berry’s snazzy jackets the send-off they deserve.

    Mary Berry - 5th August 2

(How good does Mary look in our very own Louche jacket?)

All we want you to do is arm yourself with an apron, a rolling pin and Paul Hollywood-style contacts (okay the last one is optional,) then send us mouth-watering snaps of your very best cake creations. It can be whatever cake, cookie or biscuit that tickles your taste buds because there’s only one rule here: no soggy bottoms allowed.

    How to Enter

Simply Instagram or Tweet a photograph of your baking masterpieces to @JoyTheStore, making sure you include the hashtag #SayNoToSoggyBottoms. JOY HQ’s editorial team will then act as the judging panel, basing the decision on just how tasty your cakes look. The closing point for entries will be 9pm on Friday 9th October. The 10 best entries will also feature in a gallery on JOY’s Facebook page. Terms and Conditions apply.

Inspired by the modern nomad and her ever-present determination to explore, Wanderlust is influenced by freedom and nature. With a definite feminine feel, the collection is romantic, yet strong; bold, but delicate. A collection for the modern woman.
