    Specialising in luxury materials, Leicester based jewellery designer Eve & Fox talks to JOY about the inspiration behind their latest collection, the making process and everything that makes Eve & Fox a unique buy for your jewellery box. Let's get started...

    How did you get into designing jewellery?

    I've always been interested in design and fashion, but actually did a degree in Sports Management. It was when my sister opened a gallery in Leicester and I started working for her, helping with the buying, I became really interested in jewellery design.

    I then met my husband who had a talent for making things. I would often ask him to make jewellery for myself to wear, which then evolved to us coming up with our first collection in 2008.

    How does your background provide inspiration?

    I grow up in a small village in rural Berkshire, and would often go for long walks with my family along the Kennet and Avon canal. I think my love for nature,especially birds and flowers has become a strong theme throughout our collections because of growing up in such a beautiful place.

    How do you and your husband work together? Can you describe your making process?

    A new collection will start of with me doing a sketch or having a idea then showing my husband to see if he thinks it will work. If we both agree it could work we get the first sample made up, usually we start with the necklace and then later we will add the bracelets and the earrings.

    I keep on top of the stock control making sure we have enough flowers, pearls, beads and chains etc and do all the other intresting things that go with running a jewellery company and Ron does all the making, sending, photography and the accounts.

    How have you seen your company grow since the beginning?

    It's grown so much in the last few years. Our collections are more fashion influenced and we're trying out more interesting methods and techniques to keep the jewellery unique and original. Also when we started we weren't on any social media platforms and now it's crucial for us to connect with our customers this way and a great way of advertising which helps the company grow.

    Tell me about your newest pieces and the inspiration behind them.

    Our latest collection 'The kissing rabbits' have been laser cut out of Sterling Silver and plated a lovely Matt Gold. I think the mix of a silver chain with the matt gold makes it really stand out.

    When I designed this piece I was thinking about Valentines day and thought it looked really sweet and would make a really lovely gift for a loved one.

    Any favourites in particular?

    Every day I wear the running Rabbit in Gold, it's really light to wear and is also good for laying so sometimes I wear one of our long beaded necklaces with it and it looks really pretty.

    Have you had any celebrity interest?

    As well as the jewellery business we also have a shop in Leicester that we sell our Jewellery from and Tom's wife from the band Kasabian pops in and buys a few pieces.

    Where do you work? Can we have a peek inside your studio?

    Our studio is above the shop which is handy as we also live here too with our two children. So when the kids are in bed we can go down to our studio to work.

    What’s the best thing about designing jewellery?

    We both love what we do, My husband loves making the jewellery and I find it so exciting seeing an idea develop, creating a new collection, launching it at the shows in London and getting instant feedback from our customers. There's just so many different aspects in running a Jewellery business you can never get bored!

    To mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 1945, Imperial War Museum London is launching a major new exhibition 'Fashion on the Ration', exploring how fashion survived and even flourished during wartime.

    Bringing together 300 exhibits including clothing, accessories, photographs and film, official documents and publications, artworks, wartime letters, interviews and ephemera, some of which have never been on display before, Fashion on the Ration presents a sense of what life was like on the home front for men and women during wartime Britain.

    Fashion on the Ration is an exhibition about coping in the face of adversity and how fashion and style were maintained and even flourished during the Second World War, the impact of which can still be seen on British style and the high-street today.
